How to Create a Second Instagram Account

Instagram has made it fairly simple to create a second Instagram account so that you can have both a personal and a professional account that you can run for your business page. You can also easily switch accounts easily on the Instagram app.

In this article, we will go over how to create additional accounts, link them together for ease of use, and why you should consider when you manage multiple Instagram accounts.

Whether you just need one more or you want to open multiple accounts, the Instagram app makes it easy to get your business account set up on an iOS or Android device.

Here are the steps on how to create a secondary Instagram account:

1. Step 1

   Log in to your existing Instagram account, and go to your profile page. Tap on the triple bar, or you may know it as the hamburger button – 3 lines stacked on top of each other.

2. Step 2

   Tap the gear icon for settings.

3. Step 3

   Under logins, tap the option to “add account.” Tap “create new account” if prompted. 

4. Step 4

   You may have the option of logging in with any existing accounts. At this point, you can type in your new username and password to an existing Instagram account that you just want to link to your first one.

   The accounts would be separate, but they would share the same login and contact information like your previous account. However, we recommend not doing this and signing up with a different email account to help prevent locking yourself out of some of your other Instagram accounts. 

5. Step 5

   Create a new Instagram account using a new name, new profile photo, and bio. You can create multiple accounts linked to your first account name in this same way.

Use Different Emails for Separate Instagram Accounts

It is very important to use different email addresses for your different Instagram accounts. Some have reported being permanently locked out of their secondary account if they forgot their password.

Some have reported that they tried making a secondary account with the same email address then later had to jump through some hoops to recover their secondary account.

You can make it easy to switch between your multiple Instagram accounts by linking them together. By doing this, you can avoid the annoying task of having to log out and log back into each of your accounts, especially if you’re having to switch between them and update them quite often. There is a limit of 5 that can be connected to one login, so keep that in mind. 

After all of your desired accounts are all linked together, you can easily switch between them by:

1. Step 1

   Going to your profile.

2. Step 2

   Tap on your username which is located above your profile picture with a downward arrow.

3. Step 3

   SSelect the account you would like to switch to.

There are two major steps To link an already existing account to your main Instagram account. This will allow you to add one account with a unique account name to a secondary account.

Make sure you complete them both below:

First Steps to Linking an Existing Insta Account:

1. Step 1

   Go to your profile.

2. Step 2

   Tap the triple bar. 

3. Step 3

   Tap the gear, which is your settings.

4. Step 4

   Scroll down to where you will find the option to “add account.”

5. Step 5

   Tap “log into existing account.”

6. Step 6

   Select the account you would like to add.

ANOTHER WAY WOULD BE TO:

1. Step 1

   Go to your profile.

2. Step 2

   Tap your username which should be located above your profile picture with a downward arrow.

3. Step 3

   Tap “Add account.”

4. Step 4

   Tap “log into existing account.”

5. Step 5

   Select the account you would like to add.

Second Steps to Linking an Existing Insta Account:

After you have added all of the accounts you would like to link: 

1. Step 1

   Go to your profile and tap the triple bar.

2. Step 2

   Tap settings.

3. Step 3

   Go down to logins and tap “set up multi-account login.”

4. Step 4

   Select the account you would like to use that will give you access to all your other accounts and tap “next.”

5. Step 5

   Tap the desired accounts you would like to have linked and tap “next.”

To link a new Instagram account to your main account, complete the two steps below:

FIRST STEPS TO LINKING A New INSTA ACCOUNT:

1. Step 1

   Go to your profile.

2. Step 2

   Tap the triple bar. 

3. Step 3

   Tap the gear, which is your settings.

   Tap “sign up with email or phone number.” (We recommend always setting up your accounts with a different email address).

   Create a password and tap “complete sign up.”

Or a Simpler Way Would Be to:

1. Step 1

   Go to your profile.

2. Step 2

   Tap your username which should be located above your profile picture with a downward arrow.

3. Step 3

   Tap “add account.”

4. Step 4

   Tap “create new account.”

5. Step 5

   Choose a username.

6. Step 6

   Select which account you would like to link it to.

7. Step 7

   Tap “sign up with email or phone number.” (We recommend always setting up your accounts with a different email address).

8. Step 8

   Create a password and tap “complete sign up.”

Second STEPS TO LINKING A NEW INSTA ACCOUNT:

After adding all of the accounts you would like to link together:

1. Step 1

   Go to your profile and tap the triple bar.

2. Step 2

   Tap settings.

3. Step 3

   Go down to logins and tap “set up multi-account login.”

4. Step 4

   Select the account you would like to use that will give you access to all your other accounts and tap “next.”

5. Step 5

   Tap the desired accounts you would like to have linked and tap “next.”

If you have multiple accounts and decide you want to remove one, you can easily do so on the Instagram app.

To unlink an Instagram account from your main account:

1. Step 1

   Go to your profile and tap the triple bar.

2. Step 2

   Tap settings.

3. Step 3

   Scroll down to the logins and tap “multi-account login.”

4. Step 4

   Deselect any accounts you no longer want to be linked to and tap “remove.”

5. Step 5

   You may need to then log out of all accounts to fully disconnect them.

How Many Instagram Accounts Can You Have?

You can have up to five accounts listened under one Instagram account. This allows you to use your phone number on five different brands. This can be done on the Instagram app downloadable from the Google Play Store and the App Store.

Can You Have Multiple Instagram accounts with the Same Email Address?

If you choose to create multiple Instagram accounts, you will need to have unique email account information for each account. This can make managing multiple accounts difficult. People who try to create a Second Instagram account with the same email have often lost one (or both) accounts.
