Great Artists to Follow on Instagram

Instagram is a fantastic platform that allows many creators to share their experiences and their creations. A huge portion of Instagram is filled with artists looking to share their creations, from all backgrounds and displaying all types of art. It may be street art, art history, visual arts, or more – you will find all types on Instagram and in this article, we will go through a few of them.

In this section, we will list different artists and give an overview of what they produce, alongside some photos as an example.

1. Banksy

   Banksy is a street artist in England who is renowned for his anonymity. His works have sold for millions at auctions and his identity still remains secret to millions across the country. His art is often displayed on public structures such as walls and his own prop sets, and they generally tend to carry a message throughout them. His art style was more graffiti and satirical street art, as displayed in the photos below.

2. World Record Egg

   A more unorthodox artist, but an artist nonetheless, the World Record Egg is a story heard by many. A simple photo of an egg became the most liked photo on Instagram, beating out huge celebrities like Kylie Jenner and Cristiano Ronaldo. Once the egg “cracked”, it became a symbol for mental health and speaking out about your problems. The egg account posts regular graphic design images with fun yet deep messaging about stigmas, talking, and conditions. Their art style is much more vector style, clearly done on a graphic drawing pad rather than a piece of paper.

3. Beeple

   This artist is renowned for their work within the NFT space, a rapidly growing asset class within the blockchain technology ecosystem. They produce many pop culture art pieces which are regularly minted into NFTs. This resulted in Beeple skyrocketing to over 2.2 million followers and they are now reportedly one of “the top three artists in the entire world”. The art style is somewhat of a mix of hand-drawn and vector graphics, featuring many characters, celebrities, and stories.

4. Diego Hernandez

   A smaller artist than the prior displays of millions of followers, Diego Hernandez is a well-known digital art student that creates stunning wallpapers and prints that look almost identical to photographs. His work is mainly aimed towards those who like peaceful, nature-themed artistic styles but can appeal to those with an eye for detail also.

5. Emerging Artists

   In this small section, I’d like to give some amount of exposure to the following emerging artists I found whilst looking for inspiration on Instagram. It stands testament to the fact that great artists do not need to be located in great cities such as New York City or London, but can be located anywhere in the world. Please consider giving them a follow.

   • @yamadachika_art – Stunningly detailed portrait-style photos of a single girl in different scenarios.
   • @ahlatoad – Beautiful cartoon-style artist who depicts emotive scenarios featuring a character.
   • @wolfythewitch – Game design style concept art featuring amazing stories and characters.

There are many ways to find other Instagram artists, some of them ranging in terms of difficulty. The platform is a fantastic way to view so many types of new art you might never have seen before – ranging from abstract designs to recent exhibitions displayed at art museums.

1. Following Hashtags

   Instagram contains a feature that allows for a hashtag to be followed, which allows you to almost simulate the following of an account. You will receive a large accruement of artistic posts within your feed, the exact same way as if you had hit follow on one of your favorite celebrities.

   This is a great way to open a window into a different portion of the art world and view creative images galore. Instead of just one single artist, you will get a whole range of them and could potentially be introduced to various new forms of art you had never considered before!

2. Instagram Feed

   The classic method of discovery and one that was built for this very purpose! As you delve deeper and deeper into your art journey, you will be recommended more and more art! You can influence this algorithm a little by specifically interacting with one type of art over the others, which will in turn give you more of this type of art!

3. Funneling Through Accounts

   This is a brilliant hidden gem of a way to discover new art accounts. When searching around some of the art accounts you already follow, by looking at their post descriptions you can often find links to already existing artists that the influencer wants to promote. Quite regularly, these can be smaller creators which can make it more satisfying as well.
